Iceland – Day 4 and 5 in Westfjords

In the late evening, after visiting Snæfellsnes peninsula, we arrived to our hostel in Reykhólar. It is a small village in the beginning of Westfjords. This village is surrounded by beautiful nature – moorlands, cliffs and small islands.

As I mentioned before, me and my friend planned to travel around the whole Westfjords, but due to difficult road and lack of time we had to narrow our journey there. Our first stop was Hellulaug hot pot. Even though this hot pot isn’t naturally made, it offers nice view to the landscape around, it is for free and warm water there is very relaxing. However, you have to keep in mind that there are no changing facilities to put your swimwear on.

Further on our way we stopped by Rauðasandur beach to have our lunch there.

As our next stop we planned to visit Latrabjarg cliff, but because we kinda got lost on the wrong road and were worried about the car conditions on this road, we skipped this stop. However, I suggest everyone to go there, because view there is really breath-taking.

Relatively close from Latrabjarg cliff there is a city called Patreksfjörður where we also stopped to enjoy view and rest a bit from the long driving.

Last but not least we decided to visit one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland – Dynjandi. This waterfall is surrounded by couple of smaller ones on its way down. It is around 1 hour drive from Patreksfjörður.

Since Dynjandi was our last stop for the day, we decided to go back to the Hellulaug hot pot and spend some time there before heading back to the hostel in Reykhólar.

Our next day we spent on the road to get back to the Reykjavik. You can check out this video to have a better impression and understanding of how the road in Iceland looks like.
